Two completed segments of the film on prison rape are now available
for viewing on the Human Rights Watch website at www.hrw.org/reports/2001/prison/video.html.
Gabriel Films is continuing to develop the project as a feature
length script based on the true life story of one prisoner. Held
originally for a minor crime, he was raped in prison, escaped, and
then returned to prison. He has now been in prison 20 years, having
metamorphosized from a young man in trouble with the law to a repeat
escape artist, held in maximum security who has has been subjected
to a life as one man's prison punk. For inquiries, please email
Gabriel London at gabriel@foundobjectfilms.com.
Prison rape may still be a taboo topic, but the people it affects
are real. It is a tragic story, but it is also one of hope. It addresses
the American ideal of Constitutional rights and the extent to which
we are willing to safeguard these rights for citizens in and out
of our prisons. With 2 million people incarcerated and thousands
being released each year, this issue is one that we intend to confront.
Like other independent films, this project needs input and support.
